How to Get Traffic

There are two primary ways to get traffic to your website: Pay Per Click (PPC ) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Pay Per Click involves running a small ad with search engines like Google or Yahoo.  When someone types in a search term related to your business, your ad will be shown.  You do not pay for the ad until the searcher clicks on it.  The beauty of this system is that traffic is geared EXACTLY toward your business.  Google’s system is called Adwords and is fairly easy to set up.  But tweaking and maintaining your ad campaign is what requires true skill and constant monitoring.  With the proper techniques, you can cut your advertising costs in half … sometimes even more.

Pay Per Click advertising can be a VERY profitable way to increase sales and leads (if done correctly).   It’s fast – you can have a campaign up and running in less than 30 minutes. Getting your site into the search engine listings can take weeks or even many months depending on the competition level.   If you understand how to manage a pay per click campaign, you can have immediate feedback and metrics to determine the return on your investment. You can see exactly how much money you’re spending, what your potential customers are doing online, and what sales you’ve made. If you think about advertising in the Yellow pages, it’s the exact opposite…with the Yellow Pages, you never even know if anyone sees your ad!  Pay Per Click can tell you what the money terms are.  How do you even know what search terms you should optimize your site for?  You can test them quickly and easily with a Pay Per Click campaign, and then apply that knowledge to your search engine optimization efforts.  Pay Per Click advertising should be a part of every business owners’ Internet advertising campaign, especially if they’re just starting out.

Unfortunately, managing even a small Pay Per Click campaign can be complex and require very specialized knowledge and experience. There are several problems that the novice advertiser runs into.  Google’s rules and tips and tricks to work within them – Google doesn’t make it easy to advertise.  There are lots of unwritten rules for how Google likes campaigns to be set up and run. These rules have a direct impact on how much you’ll pay for the advertising.  If not respected and understood, many campaigns are doomed to be unprofitable. These rules include:

    *  Keyword grouping
    *  Quality score
    *  Ad relevancy
    *  Click through rate management
    *  Bid pricing
    *  And many more …

Search Engine Optimization involves tweaking and adjusting your web pages so that they are "search engine friendly" and properly convey what your business is about.  By optimizing your site for the the proper keywords (search terms), your site will rise in the rankings over time.  The goal is to get on the first page of Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  The truth is, if you’re not on the first page, you’re sunk.  People just aren’t going to find you.

Everyone loves successful Search Engine Optimization, because you can get lots of traffic and it’s free!  The problem is, that no one really knows how Google decides where to rank your site and when it will show up.  Any expert that tells you that they know exactly how Google’s ranking works and/or guarantees that you’ll get into the top spots (for a fee, of course), is being less than truthful.  Even so, there are proven techniques that you can employ to get your site into the top of the listings.  I believe in being very transparent about what I’m doing and why I’m doing it, so we’ll show you exactly what I’m doing, and why it helps to skyrocket you right to the top.

Business owners have big challenges when it comes to Search Engine Optimization:

     * Often, Google doesn’t even know their site exists (this is VERY common)
     * Even if Google does know about their site, it never shows up in search engine listings.
     * Even if their site does show up in some kind of search, it’s hardly ever the “keyword phrase”

       that the owner would like
     * Even if the owner could dictate to Google what keywords to show the site for, most business

       owners don’t know which words and phrases are the money makers

There are many other methods to increase website traffic … but they involve activities that are "off your page," that is, they are done outside of your website.
